Ramble : The State of This World

Sometimes, when you’re watching the news, or talking about the latest kidnapping case or trial going on in hushed tones, like whoever the suspect is might be watching, it can seem like everyone is evil, everyone is out to get you, the state of this world is pretty crummy.
But it balances this out when you see things like this old couple at my grandmother’s nursing home, the man always, without fail, pulls the chair out for his wife, and then he sits down and smiles at her while he eats, and refers to her in conversation as ‘the love of his life’. And little children – little children haven’t had sufficient time to be polluted by evil, this is why I love my younger brother so much, the other day, we were just talking, and he looked up at me, and he said ‘I want to marry you.’ And then, earlier, my sister and her friend were joking, and the friend said ‘nobody likes you’, and my little brother stood up and said ‘I do! I love you!’. It’s things like my little brother, and that old couple, that make me smile everyday, and strengthen my thoughts that maybe the state of this world isn’t too bad, maybe the good can outweigh the evil if we just try hard enough.
In conclusion, when I see things like that old couple, or my little brother, I don’t think the state of the world is as bad as it’s hyped up to be.

Ramble : Me

Hey, everyone!

I realized I never really introduced myself on here, and that’s rather bad form as I don’t normally go baring my soul to strangers whom I’ve never spoken to before, so I thought I’d take advantage of my insomnia and write up a quick introductory post.

So, what do you want to know about me? I will list some things in bullet form, because I’m bad at organizing my thoughts and this helps.

  • My favorite animal is a capybara. If you don’t know what this, watch more animal shows, because you, my friend, are losing out.
  • I don’t own one though, I just own one kitten whom hates me.
  • My favorite color is white.
  • I am actually an author, having self-published a short story for charity last month. So bow down before me, mortals.
  • I’m in my lower teens, somewhere between 13-15. I cross-post enough sentences between here and to friends that if I put my age up, they could probably make some assumptions, although I’m probably just paranoid. But better safe than sorry, so in the interest of remaining truly anonymous, I won’t say my age down to the number.
  • My favorite movie is the 2012 Les Miserables. It was just released last Christmas, and I have already seen it, no exaggeration, 50-75 times. Probably closer to 75. This isn’t including all the times I only watched half. I do need to get a life.
  • My favorite television show is Sherlock.
  • I had the privelege of meeting my favorite author at a book convention, and she said she recognized my book blog. She was probably lying to be kind(I made a typo here, I typed King. Yes, she will become King by lying to a teenage girl) but either way, it was still the highlight of my life.
  • I obviously really suck at this, so I’m going to end this post now before the meager amount of followers I somehow managed to scrape up flee from my blog and never check it again.

Ramble : Moments

Do any of you guys ever have those moments, where you’re laughing with a friend or running around outside, crunching leaves under your feet, or zooming against the wind on your bike, where you just stop and think about how wonderful everything is?

Do you just stop and think about how amazing it is that you have such wonderful friends and live such an amazing life, and you’re healthy enough to do these things and you’re alive to experience them?

If you don’t, you’re missing one of the best emotions. I have had many, many highs and lows that I can remember, and there’s only two highs that make me feel this wonderful : this moment I just discussed, and the moment of euphoria when I finish writing a story and I’m still convinced that it’s the best thing mankind’s ever wrote, before reality sets in.

I’m writing this because I haven’t had any of these moments lately, and I was just thinking about them and missing them.

When’s the last time you had one of these moments? What brought it on? What’s your favorite feeling in the world? I think you can comment on these posts, so leave a comment and tell me. I’d love to read them.

Ramble : Texts

I feel like texts or messages from people are actually pretty awesome, probably more so than most people, because I stop and think about what texts mean, and I’ve found, they mean someone is spending time of their life they will never, ever, ever get back talking to you.

They think you’re special enough, funny enough, and important enough to deserve that time they will never ever get back. And if you get into a lengthy conversation, they’re using even more time they will never get back, because you’re so funny, special, and important they can’t stop talking to you.

Think about that next time you’re feeling unimportant, or someone texts you – they’re using their time, time they will never get back, to talk to you.

Ramble : Impact

I swear to you, no matter who you are, no matter where you’ve been, what you’ve done, or how old you are, that you’ve impacted someone’s life.

At the very, very least, this has happened once in your lifetime, although this probably happens weekly or daily.

Your parents, your siblings, your relatives, you impacted all their lives.

All of your friends, you’ve impacted theirs.

That man you smiled to when you were passing him in the grocery store? That girl you said hi to when you walked past her in the sidewalk? Maybe they were feeling ignored and beaten down by life, and your smile or words gave them hope again. In that way, you impacted theirs.

That woman you opened the door for? You reminded her that chivalry isn’t dead, no matter how hard people are trying to make it so, you gave her something to think about, even just for a second, and in that way, you impacted her life.

The pizza delivery boy you tipped 5$? He might have used those 5$ for gas for a road trip he was going on, to see all 50 states. You might have helped fund his life long dream, and thus impacted his life.

I can attest to you, personally, how many strangers have impacted my life, most by their kindness – sometimes as simple as holding open a door or smiling or getting something off a shelf I can’t reach.

I remember reading about a man who left a suicide note saying he was going to walk to a bridge, if no one smiled to him when he was walking there, he would jump. He ended up jumping. Think of how much someone could have impacted his life just by smiling at him. You could do that with a stranger.

So, in summary, go out, conquer the world, but remember to smile and say hi while you’re doing it, because you never know how many lives you’ll impact with just the smallest of gestures.
